Is it possible to sell memberships from my online shop if my membership site is on another WP installation?

Question:
My website has the store & shopping cart in one WP installation (/shop), and the membership content in another one (/members).
Is it possible to sell memberships from /shop/ so that the user can access /members. If that is so, how is it applied?
Are users able to login to their purchase history in /shop and then move across to /members and access their content – seamlessly?
Please advise…
