Tip #66: bbPress vs. SimplePress – Which Forum to Integrate with Wishlist Member?

There are only few plugins that integrate with Wishlist Member, among them are bbPress and SimplePress.

Many of our clients are asking for our advise on which plugin has a better integration with Wishlist Member and which is more recommended.

That is exactly why we created this tip, to help our customers and all Wishlist Member users get important information before choosing their forum platform, as switching between platforms with hundreds of active users can be very daunting afterwards.

bbPress

Pros:

• Free plugin
• Nice and clean design
• Has a great theme compatibility, meaning that the functionality of bbPress will work even with themes that has no specific bbPress templates or code
• Used by big membership sites (we have some very big clients with thousands of clients who are using bbPress)
• bbPress belongs to the company Automatic, which is the same company that developed the WordPress platform

Cons:

• In order to fully integrate it with Wishlist Member there is a need for an extra plugin, as the basic integration does not protect topics and replies within the forum, and it also doesn’t protect the main forum index page (http://yourdomain.com/forums).
  The plugin needed for a complete integration is Wishlist bbPress Protection and it integrates Wishlist Member and bbPress seamlessly.

SimplePress

Pros:

• Free plugin
• Full integration with Wishlist Member
• Offers a large variety of extensions (paid)
• Solid platform with great community support

Cons:

• A longer learning curve in order to understand how to integrate it (though the learning curve varies from one person to another). • The basic designed is not so great, but SimplePress do offer several themes (paid)
