So What is OTO Anyway?

OTO or One-Time-Offer is a special offer you suggest to your clients after they complete a certain action you want them to complete in order to increase/ maximize your earnings.

The whole point of the OTO is to be one-time, meaning, it won’t repeat itself and your clients will not be able to go back to the OTO page and get that offer again after they leave it.

Your OTO can be a free offer for joining mailing list, downloading a free product or selling a complementary product.

By giving your clients a one time offer they will not be able to get once they leave the OTO page, will create a sense of urgency and therefore, will increase the chances of them to take your OTO.

Customer is in a Buying Mood

Making a purchase gets your client in a buying mood. If he pulled out his credit card, he will be more willing to do it again.

May Seem Too Pushy

In order for the OTO not to look sleazy and pushy you need to offer a relevant product and not just some unrelated product and don’t offer too many OTOs in one sales funnel. Doing one of these things will make you look too desperate to sale and you may create a trust issue among your clients.

Conclusion

It’s better to have one sale than not to have any sale at all. With that said, allow your clients to purchase they product they need first, and make a good OTO sales letter to convince them why they need your second offer.

The same goes for the free offer. If the most important thing is for you is to build your mailing list, let your visitors to complete the sign-up and only then offer them the OTO.

It all depends on your own personal preferences.

In order for your OTO sales letter to be effective and increase your revenues, you need to make sure to:

Clarify your clients this is a one-time-offer that won’t repeat itself anywhere else (and commit to what you are saying or else the conversion rate won’t be high enough)

Clarify your clients that the OTO is a complementary product that’s important for achieving the goal, but not make it seem as if the original product is not worth without it, otherwise you may cause people to withdraw even from the original purchase.

Start your OTO sales page by connecting it to the original sale, for example: “Thank you for purchasing my course Play the Piano Like a Pro in 10 Lessons. I want to give you a special one-time offer to purchase my musical notes guide and get  50% discount.”

Make sure your clients know that if they pass on your offer they will not be able to get it once they leave your page, for example: “I pass on your offer to get 50% discount on purchasing your musical notes guide. I know that once I click on the No Thanks button I will no longer be able to get the 50% off and I am OK with it.”

OTO and Wishlist Member

There are a few ways to create OTO offers with Wishlist Member:

1. Include the OTO in the After Registration Page

In order to set the OTO as your After Registration page you need to go to Wishlist Member plugin > click on the Membership Levels tab > choose the membership level and click Edit > set the OTO offer as the After Registration page.

The problem is that the After Registration Page is not secured and can be accessed at any time directly through the link.

2. Using Wishlist Welcome Plugin

Wishlist Welcome is a plugin developed by the Wishlist Member team and it allows you to display a welcoming message that will appear in the dashboard, inside a lightbox. You can set how many times to display the message to your members, so if you want to secure the OTO, you can choose to display it only once.
