Tip #3 – Must Have Plugins for Managing Your Membership Site
May 8, 2014 6 Comments
In this tip we gathered the most popular plugins we are using to make our lives much easier when building and managing our membership sites and our clients’ membership sites.
This a list we share only with our clients and we built it since we noticed that many are not familiar with these plugins, and we wanted to save them time in the process of building their sites.
This is a complete suit of plugins that is extremely useful and saves valuable time.
The list is divided to both free and paid plugins.
We hope you will benefit from it as much as we do!
Free Plugins
Duplicate Post
This is a very simple yet powerful plugin that allows you to duplicate an existing post or page.
The plugin is useful for any type of website, but is even more powerful and time-saver plugin for membership sites.
It can save you tremendous amount of time if you need to create several pages that need to have the same look and feel.
You can also copy existing settings to all the clones you create, for example:
- The original post/page date
- The original post/page status (draft, published, pending), when cloning from the posts list
- The original post/page excerpt
- The original post/page attachments (actual files won’t be copied)
- All the children of the original page
- Which taxonomies and custom fields
You can find all the available settings in the WordPress menu under “Settings” > “Duplicate Post”

Easily duplicate the post or page yo need by clicking on the “Clone” option as seen below:
PageMash and PostMash
These 2 plugins allow you to customize your posts and pages’ order, in what order they appear and even hide them. All this is done using a drop-down menu.
For example: if you created a “thank you page” for people who register to your membership site, and you want to hide it from the menu, you can simple go to the plugin and click “Hide” to hide the page.
These are must have plugins and we are using them in every website and membership site we have.

You will find the plugins in the WordPress menu under “Posts” or “Pages” depending on the plugin you’ve installed:
Shortcodes Ultimate
If you want to change the look and feel of your membership site, Shortcode Ultimate is definitely a must have plugin for you.
The plugin contains many different shortcodes that allow you to create content boxes, toggles, quick navigation bars and many many cool things.

After installing the plugin, you will be able to easily add any shortcode you want from within each post or page.
You will see an “Insert Shortcode” button in the post’s bar:
And once you click on it, a light-box will pop:
Widgets on Pages
The plugin allows you to simply add widgets to any post or page you want. Simple and helpful!
You can access the plugin’s settings from the WordPress menu > Settings >Widgets on Pages:
Single Shortcode
This plugin allows you to display visitors/ members content only when they are in the excerpt or inside a single post.
For example: you can use these shortcodes if you created some “teaser content” so non-members can see only the excerpt and all the content after the “read more” tag is protected.
We like to use it to display a call to action in the excerpt for non-members only to register, but when members enter the single post, they do not see this “call to action” because it is hidden within the [ excerpt ] [/ excerpt ] shortcode.

All you need to do in order to use the “single” and “excerpt” shortcodes is to install and activate the plugin, so here is an example of how we are using it.
Excerpt screenshot – There is a “call to action” to register to the free membership and a Protected Content badge:
Single post screenshot – You can see that the “Premium Content” badge doesn’t appear and also the “Register for Free to Get Updates” content:
Post Content Shortcodes
This is an excellent plugin that allows you to display content from one post in other posts or pages using a simple shortcode.
We are using it inside our membership sites to display the sales page inside our error pages.
Using the plugin for this purpose saves a tremendous amount of time since every time we do changes to our sales page, the error pages automatically update.
The shortcode looks like this: [ post-content id=X ]
The “X” is the post’s ID (the post you want to copy).
Simple Custom Post Order
This plugin allows you to order your posts and pages by simple drag and drop option.
After installing and activating the plugin you simply go to the posts or pages menus and you will be able to re-organize your posts’ order by dragging and dropping them to another location.
Paid Plugins
Wishlist Protection Display
Wishlist Protection Display plugin adds a Protection Level column to your posts’ and pages’ tables, and gives you an overview of how and if your content is protected without the need to enter each post and page to check if the protection settings are correct.
Using the plugin makes it much more easy for you as a membership site owner to see clearly which posts and pages are protected and in which level and allows you to avoid any mistakes in your protection settings, especially if you have many posts/ pages.
We are using the plugin in every membership site we are building, whether it is our own membership site or our clients’.
