Does Wishlist Auto Registration plugin change the member’s password when he upgrades?

Question:

“Hi Bob, I’ve purchase the AutoRegistration Plugin and I’ve run some tests.

I tried to make a test purchase a membership level, and everything went perfect.

Then I tried to make a second purchase with the same email address, in order to test the purchase when the user is already a customer (therefore he already has an account in WordPress).

I noticed that a new password was assigned to the user, and therefore the old password was changed.

This is very annoying for a user, how can I change that?

Answer:

Hi Marco,

Thank you for contacting us.

After a user is being upgraded, no new password is created, but if you use the password shortcode in the thank you page, you will see a new password, as the Wishlist Member plugin creates a new password, but it is not used anywhere when upgrading the client. The old password is the right one.

In order to create a scenario where the new password is not displayed when a member is upgraded, you can put the password content inside the special message shortcode:

1. [ wlar_new_member ]Content here[ /wlar_new_member ] – A text message you can display to new members

2. [wlar_member_upgraded] Content here[/wlar_member_upgraded] – A Text message you can display to upgrading members

If you put the password information inside the first shortcode, the information will only be displayed to new members.

You can use the other shortcodes to display some kind of content that is telling the customer that the password is the same one that was used before.

Also, using these shortcodes, you can adapt the thank you page to display information based on the member’s status (new / existing).
