Tip #58: Free vs. Paid Trial Period for Your Membership Site
June 21, 2015 1 Comment
Trial periods have become a very popular tactic to attracting new members, and many membership sites’ owners are already implementing this tactic.
Some offer free trials and some offer paid trial, but which converts more trial members to full paying members?

Free vs. Paid Trial Period
Why Go with Free:
On the one hand, when offering a free trial period you can easily increase your registration rates and also collect more emails of people who are interested in your product/ in the niche your membership site is about.
Why Go with Paid:
On the other hand, from a psychological aspect, and also from experience with some of our clients who tried this method, the conversion rates from a free trial to a full paid membership are smaller in comparison to users who were required to pay even a small fee for their trial period.
When people purchase something, they usually value it more, so maybe you will get more registrations with a free trial, but less members who are in their trial period will actually access the content and try to engage with it.
Our Recommendation:
As every audience and niche is different from one another, the best thing is to actually split test the 2 options and see which method converts more members to become full paying members.
